[manjaro-general] software update halts again...

It was suggested previously when i could not complete updates that perhaps i had a bad ISO. Downloading another and reinstalling 0.8.11 gnome tonight i get very similar results. The os installs fine, i reboot, notices say updates are available. There are 209 comprising 545.84mb. All is well till after 500mb are installed. The last line i get before it stops is
Downloading lib32-tdb-1.3.2-1-x86_64...

After 20+ min with no progress, i try to quit the update mgr to no avail. I restart, and now something new... Oh no! Something has gone wrong and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again.
But no mouse and no kbd can hit the log out button.
Ideas?
