This basic mate edition works like a charm! Fanf**ingtastic! Lightdm
even autologs me in. I don't know how you did that but thank you oh so
very much! The desktop icons don't read but this isn't a manjaro bug but
a mate one, and I'll get right on it. I'm so glad to be using the gtk3
version of mate. I'm building a test full image to see if lightdm works
there as well, it didn't last time I tried but there have been changes
since then.
