[manjaro-general] XFCE status tray plugin

Folks:

It appears that the status tray plugin for XFCE figures out when I need 
to update packages. Can someone tell me how this works internally? Is 
this a polling process which happens periodically? If so, how often? If 
not, how is it triggered? Also what actual program is running for this 
plugin?
