hi all
I've been trying for the past several months to switch completely over
from thus to calamares. I keep running into problems though and keep
having to delay it. But this latest thus bug has made it imperative
that calamares accessibility get fixed. The installer will get to the
keyboard layout screen, and then freeze completely. I used to be able to
restart orca and it would read again, but this time the installer itself
stops responding. It really won't take much to get calamares accessible
to orca. One of the biggest problems right now which will likely take a
lot of working together is the fact that calamares is not accessible in
the mate desktop. In fact, no apps launched as root are accessible in
mate. Calamares isn't accessible in gnome either, but I think that might
be because of issues in the installer. Phil, teo, bernhard, would you
guys mind joining the orca list to talk with joanmeri diggs, the lead
orca developer to try to solve this? I don't expect you guys to do all
the work by any means, I'll help out in any way I can, testing, etc.
I'm just about to email joanmeri privately to see if she can test the
installer and give me an idea of what it's doing and sending to the
accessibility subsystem. If you decide to join the orca list, you might
want to do it on a distro related, not a personal account, so that
you're not flooded. The orca list is usually fairly low traphic, but can
sometimes have several dozen messages a day. You could of course email
joanmeri privaty at jdiggs at igalia.com if that would be easier. I'm
trying to get the ball rolling hear. This problem of apps not being
accessible when run as root is probably going to take coordination
between you guys, me, joanmeri, and the mate people to fix but it's
critical that it does get fixed, because otherwise I can't use calamares
in our mate edition. I hope I'm not overloading your todo lists with
this, and I"m sorry to be doing this with little notice, but I need help
from people who can see on this, because calamares is just a blank
window to me. I can't see well enough to know what it's supposed to say.
Thanks
Kendell Clark
